Production Business Partner & Data Analyst

We have a newly created role within our Accounts and Finance team for a Production Business Partner & Data Analyst, based in our Head Office in Hertford. Reporting to the Finance Director, the role will provide financial support to the production area of the business, including extensive cost analysis. Ideally, candidates will have a background of working in a manufacturing or industrial industry and who have demonstrable experience of cost accounting. This role will work across a number of departments and so the ability to form strong working relationships is key to its success.


  • Understanding and analysing the costs of production and providing insightful management reporting around labour costs, efficiency, productivity and cost of quality
  • Working in collaboration with the Manufacturing and Operations departments to understand key process cost drivers and to develop and report on KPI’s
  • Feedback to Production departments actual results vs budget/forecast each month and perform variance analysis to understand the key drivers and reasons, giving financial insight into activities and highlighting cost saving opportunities
  • Comparison of expected vs actual costs for major projects
  • Analysis of WIP for major projects
  • Responsibility for the production elements of annual budgets and ongoing forecast
  • Updating and maintaining machine and other production rates
  • Analysis of spend to support procurement projects
  • Providing costing support to commercial teams in preparation of bids
  • Capital justification – prepare justifications for large scale asset purchases?
  • Audits, month end close of stock, balance sheet management and controls

Person specification

  • Previous experience working within manufacturing or industrial organisations or a related area
  • Finance degree and/or working towards a professional accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA) or equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience of Cost Accounting in a Manufacturing or Industrial Environment
  • Be IT literate and have experience using production systems
  • Strong MS office skills, particularly advanced Excel reporting, vlookups, sumifs and pivot tables
  • Ideally some experience with Qlickview, Tableau, PowerBI or similar
  • Have effective verbal and written communication skills including report writing, with the ability to build strong cross departmental relationships to help embed our business partnering processes
