History

Stephen Austin was established in 1768 and is part of a privately owned printing and publishing group. Our secure production site is based in Hertford, just north of London. 

We are privileged to hold a Royal Warrant for printing services to Her Majesty The Queen and have won various awards over the years that reflect our distinguished history. We are proud to have been members of the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) since 1985.

1768 Stephen Austin & Sons established in Hertford.
1805 Stephen Austin appointed printer and bookseller to the East India College.
1855 Stephen Austin awarded gold medal by The Empress of the French at Paris for production of ‘Sakoontala’.  Click here for more information.
1961 Commissioned to produce Shavian Alphabet by Estate of George Bernard Shaw.  Click here for more information.
1985 Stephen Austin becomes member of BPIF.
1992 Stephen Austin accredited to ISO 9001:2000
1995 Stephen Austin awarded Royal Warrant for printing services to Her Majesty The Queen.
2000 Stephen Austin expands secure production site to 75,000 square feet.
2008 240 Year Anniversary of the Company
