RORY FOWLER

CEO Stephen Austin Group

Rory joined Stephen Austin in 1996 and led the company as Managing Director from 2004 to 2018, overseeing a period of growth and specialism in the high-stakes examinations market. He founded the Group’s education technology business, GradeMaker, in 2014, and completed a successful sale to AQA in 2023. Working with the Board and Strategy Director, Rory is now responsible for the growth and development of the Stephen Austin business internationally.

SIMON LEBUS

Chairman

Simon Lebus currently works as a non-executive director and adviser with a range of different companies in the education and edtech sector. Simon was previously (2021) Interim Chief Regulator at Ofqual and before that (2002-18) Chief Executive at Cambridge Assessment (now Cambridge University Press and Assessment), where he was responsible for the management of the OCR, Cambridge International and Cambridge ESOL exam boards. Simon’s career before Cambridge Assessment was spent in finance and industry. 

TERRY SWEENEY

Non-executive Director

Terry Sweeney has over 25 years of leadership experience in the education technology sector, the last 15 years at Board level. Terry is the former CEO of RM Education Plc., a leading technology partner to UK education. Terry is also non-executive chairman of WaterBear Education, a higher education provider of BA (Hons) degree and masters programmes in the area of professional music. Terry also works as an adviser to a range of other companies in the education and education technology sector.

ADRIAN MELLOR

Strategy Director

Adrian joined the Stephen Austin Group as CEO of GradeMaker and managed the transition of that business to AQA ownership. He is now Strategy Director for Stephen Austin responsible for the long-term development of the business. Adrian works closely with awarding organisations, universities and providers of professional certification in the UK and internationally. He understands the need for quality, security and efficiency in high value publishing and assessment markets.
